From Amazon.com:

The New York Times bestselling author of Darkfever and Bloodfever returns to Dublin’s Fae-infested shores in a bold, sensual new novel. Hurtling us into a realm of seduction and shadows, Karen Marie Moning tells the enthralling tale of a woman who explores the limits of her mysterious powers as she enters a world of ancient sorcery—and confronts an enemy more insidious than she could ever have imagined.

He calls me his Queen of the Night. I’d die for him. I’d kill for him, too. When MacKayla Lane receives a torn page from her dead sister’s journal, she is stunned by Alina’s desperate words. And now MacKayla knows that her sister’s killer is close. But evil is closer. And suddenly the sidhe-seer is on the hunt: For answers. For revenge. And for an ancient book of dark magic so evil, it corrupts anyone who touches it.

Mac’s quest for the Sinsar Dubh takes her into the mean, shape-shifting streets of Dublin, with a suspicious cop on her tail. Forced into a dangerous triangle of alliance with V’lane, an insatiable Fae prince of lethally erotic tastes, and Jericho Barrons, a man of primal desires and untold secrets, Mac is soon locked in a battle for her body, mind, and soul.

As All Hallows’ Eve approaches and the city descends into chaos, as a shocking truth about the Dark Book is uncovered, not even Mac can prevent a deadly race of immortals from shattering the walls between worlds—with devastating consequences.…

September 16, 2008, folks. Mark it. Stalk it. Love it. Special thanks to Tink for bringing me the heads up.

Oh, thank you!!! I didn’t know the blurb had been posted. It sounds really enticing. I felt that there wasn’t much progress in Bloodfever compared to Darkfever, I’m hoping things change a bit in this installment. I hope the shattering of the walls doesn’t happen at the very end, leaving the consequences for the next book. I have high hopes for the development of Mac and Jericho’s relationship in this novel – with a hint of V’lane to spice things up a little. :)

Mary, I’m looking forward to the romance/relationship aspects too! I don’t think there’s a Fever reader that isn’t though lol. I too hope we’ll see some really enticing things happening with the plot this time. The way the other left off, there’s a lot to look forward to!

I didn’t realize the blurb was up either– THANKS!!

Don’t discount Christian MacKelter! For one, he’s a MacKelter (*swoon*) and for two, remember the excerpt from KMM’s
May Newsletter? If she had been kissing V’Lane, I think her responses and demeaner would be completely different. So I think she was playing Tonsil Hockey with Christian.

“I hope the shattering of the walls doesn’t happen at the very end, leaving the consequences for the next book.”

I hear you on that one, Mary! I felt a bit betrayed by the cliffhanger at the end of Bloodfever (she knows who has the book). This series is a master’s class in 1st person POV. WE don’t know anything unless Mac knows it, and WE know everything Mac knows— up until Bloodfever’s ending. I sincerely hope KMM doesn’t pull that again because it feels like she broke a trust with us. Or maybe I’m just a wee bit obsessed with this series.

Dude, I haven’t even read the first book! LOL.

Christian’s interest is mysterious at this point, but I agree, Bev and wouldn’t complain if he wanted to play tonsil hockey with Mac. :D

Wendy, get thee to thy bookstore! I happened upon Darkfever right as it released in paperback and need to get in hardback now. I personally think the series is worth it. But hey, if you do decide to read it and like it, that’s three books to read back to back. Ah, bliss to a reader. ;o)

K, that would entail me having to put on pants and lately I’ve being very anti-pants – soo, I’m just gonna order from Amazon, lol.

Good point, Wendy. In that light, Amazon is THE choice lol.

I keep hearing about this series from very excited and happy fans. Would you mind doing a quick sell? What’s it about? (If you don’t mind…)

Oo, Meriam, I will sure try my best. :D Mind you I’ve not been awake very long so far lol.

MacKayla Lane gets word of her sister’s death and travels to Ireland to find her own clues when the police in Dublin dismiss the case. There she eventually meets a reclusive bookseller, Jericho Barrons and suddenly her world is opened up to the dark and dangerous world of the Fae. Through him, she learns of her powers and begins to see that the world around her is slowly coming apart. The Unseelie, the bad Fae, are trying to break down the barrier that holds them back from our world. As Mac searches for her sister’s killer, she is immersed deeper and deeper into an insidious and ancient battle. She and Jericho, and others, seek the Sinsar Dubh, a magical book of the Fae. They must find it before others do, before our world becomes enslaved by Fae.

That’s just a rushed explanation, Meriam. LOL, my daughter is tugging on me as I write to go outside. I would read Darkfever, Bloodfever and then this new release when it comes out, Faefever all in that order. I would not say each is a standalone title. If you’ve read her previous Highlander romances, you may be familiar with some of the elements int his series. She’s taken her Fae from the previous and really vamped them up in these books, made them scarier and much more real. I love these books!

Thanks! I think I’ll give them a go once I’ve cleared several other books from my tbr. I feel like trying something new at the moment.

(btw, I smell a love triangle… is it bad?)

There is a love triangle of sorts. Both love interests at the moment though, we have no idea what their motivations are. Fan choice is highly in favor of Barrons, but there’s also V’lane, a Seelie prince, who are supposedly the good Fae, but even they aren’t trustworthy. Heck, we don’t even really know if Barrons is trustworthy yet either, not for sure, but so far, he’s been there to get Mac out of some dicey situations. Whatever their real interest is, it’s clear that both need Mac for something, something to do with the what’s happening with the barrier coming down.

Moning has said that each book in and of themselves are not romances, but that by the end of the fifth book, there will be an HEA. I would call this urban fantasy though, with a thread of romance as one of the subplots, no matter if Mac is living HEA by the fifth or not. So far, the sexual tension between Mac and Barrons and Mac and V’lane is at least entertaining. :D

Meriam, Kmont’s summary was spot-on. But another thing that keeps me enthralled with these books (besides the 1st person POV I mentioned above) is that it is written from the future perspective (I guess that would be the term). Mac is recounting to us things that already happened. However we don’t know right now if this is Mac telling us or something she wrote down in her journal and we are now reading, or someone else is reading to us… possibly after her death. KMM said there would be some romance in the series eventually and she also said some familiar characters from the Highlanders would appear (like Christian, and probably one other one in Bloodfever but he’s not named).

You know I’ve been listening to the Highlander audio books as they are released (and not to be missed!). The first time I read the books was long before the Fever series, so it’s been fascinating to listen to all the little bits and pieces of fae lore that eventually evolved into the brilliant Fever series.

Kmont, I’d say they are a hybrid of Urban Fantasy and Dark Fantasy. And yeah, I agree that the sexual tension is HIGHLY entertaining, particularly in light of the fact that we are never sure of V’Lane and JB’s motives.

Bev, thanks – dark fantasy does sound like a better description actually. And you blew my mind lol! Uh…i didn’t know that the books are Mac telling us, at least all the time, about things that have already happened. I’m going to sound like an idiot probably, but isn’t any of it happening in Mac’s present?

I know some have wondered too – do you think Christian might have any romantic interest in Mac? I’m actually hoping not myself, as it seems she’s got enough to handle with Barrons and V’lane lol!

My books aren’t handy right this second to give you exact quotes, but IIRC both DF and BF start with a prologue that reads very much like a journal entry. In both of those and sprinkled throughout the books she says things like “I would find out much later that…” or “Later I would realize…” which to me means that the story is being told from a future viewpoint.

So we know she’s alive at some point in the future to be recounting these events, but like I said, we don’t know how WE are getting the story– is SHE directly telling us? Are WE reading her journal? Are we following along as someone else reads her journal sometime in the future?

There’s a LOT of clues in DF’s prologue, IIRC, and they are also the reason I question our source. But even if she’s dead at the time we are getting the story, it could mean something as simple as one of her great grandchildren reading her journal 60 years from now. Or it could be as bittersweet as her lover (whoever that may be) reading the journals after her death.

As for JB, my gut feeling is that KMM IS setting him up to be Mac’s ultimate love interest (maybe after a few side trips to Christian and V’Lane). It seems like she’s invested a whole lot of time on building their relationship and jacking up the sexual tension and curiousity. Not to mention those brief glimpses she gives us of what appears to be JB’s tenderness (and even longing) for Mac. But this series is so vastly different from anything else she’s written that I wouldn’t bet the farm on ANYTHING she decides to do! We’ve got what… only 3 more books to go? I don’t know about you, but I’m torn between wanting to know EVERYTHING, and wanting to NEVER reach the end.

OK, thanks for cluing me in, Bev. Now I feel like a dorkus lol. I need to go back and reread those beginning parts. I guess I’d always just assumed it was happening in Mac’s present for the most part.

I really, really love your theories though and it’ll give me a lot more to think about as I read Faefever.

I do think you’re right about Barrons ultimately being with Mac. And yes, I wouldn’t bet on anything Moning might do with the series either! It’s amazing to me that she’s managed to release just the right tidbits and teasers without going overboard. She’s not giving away majorly important character details or plot points and as a result, I think that’s one major reason readers who are enjoying the books are liking them SO much.

What’s really winning me over is your enthusiasm for the series. It’s nice to hear from happy fans. Thanks for the info. I’m going to go for it…
