New This Week – June 24th

2008 June 23

Ah, sweet, sweet Tuesday. Not only are we then three days away from Friday, but it’s the day the bookstore releases all that is fresh, exciting and new book-wise. Up on the shelf this week:

Hotter Than HellKim Harrison, author of the Hallows/Rachel Morgan series, edits thirteen stories from acclaimed writers such as Susan Krinard (Ride a Dark Horse), Keri Arthur (To Die For), L.A. Banks and Majorie M. Liu (Minotaur in Stone)…and more. I’m gonna bitch about one thing, and it’s that “more” word. I’m searching high and low to find out who the other authors slotted under “more” are. In fact the only other authors I can find are Heidi Betts (Curse of the Dragon’s Tears), Cheyenne McCray (Demon Lover), Carrie Vaughn (Life is the Teacher, about a character from her Kitty Norville series) .

I’m pretty excited to lay hands on the thing. Love and love short stories.

Interesting note: Ms. Harrison herself DOES have a short story in this one. She’s bringing back a character from her short story in the Dates from Hell anthology, Mia. Incidentally, Mia will also appear in ‘Harrison’s regular books to come. Read here for details. I just have to drop the name of the next Rachel Morgan book while I’m at it, White Witch, Black Curse (though I’m sure it’s probably well-know by now) and get the ball rolling on ideas surrounding that one. What do you think it means in relation to the series? I think it basically says that Rachel stays true to her good side while fitghting of the ever-enclosing evil that wants her. Not a deep assessment, so what’s yours?

New to the paranormal romance scene, Anna Windsor is still no newbie when it comes to writing. She’s penned erotic romance for Ellora’s Cave under the name Annie Windsor. Her critique partner is none other than Cheyenne McCray.

Bound by Shadow is the first in her back-to-back series of The Dark Crescent Sisterhood. Following in July and August are Bound by Flame and Bound by Light.

The covers remind me of the U.S. Black Dagger Brotherhood concept. And I have nothing else to add on that one.

And here’s a blurb for book 1:

Riana Dumain is a fully trained Sibyl, a warrior priestess battling
evil whose practical magic keeps her grounded in earthly
science–and desires. She knows that gorgeous NYPD detective Creed Lowell is dangerous, and possibly a foot soldier for the evil Legion cult, using his badge and drop-dead looks to consolidate demonic power.

Creed’s low profile Occult Crimes Unit pulls Riana and her two sister Sibyl into the case of a politician’s son, murdered in a ritualistic sacrifice. Soon, Riana’s instincts prove true. Creed, the hottest half-human she’s ever known, a demon in bed and out, is guarding a trapdoor to hell. And unless Riana can find a way to tame her mystery man’s treacherous inner self (and her heart), all of Manhattan may be enveloped by darkness.

Don’t forget to check her site for a short excerpt. I’ve had my eye on this one and here’s to hoping it’s good.
