Friday Deliveries Rule

But I must say that the United States Postal Service (USPS) has the most suck ass tracking system ever. More on this story later.
So here’s the latest goodies added to the TBR Pile from Hell. Hell, I say, because getting it down to manageable proportions is surely not in my near future. But there’s a certain comfort in having that towering mass in your shelf, or floor, or nightstand table, isn’t there? There they lay quiet as mice, seemingly unassuming little rectangles of meekness. But we know what really lies in wait.

Damn little vixens of vice (we loves ya that way), come to mama. Ahhhhhh. I’ve got to catch up on Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series. I haven’t successfully been able to pin down those books since the phenomenal A Hunger Like No Other. I’m literally ready to tear my hair out for not having actively pursued my copy of From Dead to Worse yet. I’ll likely start that tonight, hot and heavy, baby. I’ve got some great looking historicals from some of my fave authors waiting…and waiting and waiting some more already. Ahhhh!!!!!
So I thought, naturally, I need to go buy me some more books and away to Amazon I went. White coat, padded room craziness! And here’s they are, the latest additions to my TBR Hell:
But the U.S. postal service tracking system blows chunks! They give this free service, allowing customers to track orders, but they do not update the tracking! I’m supposed to get my books today, and yeah, they’ll probably get here just fine, but MAN! These are like our kids sometimes. We want to to see where our books are and we want to see now! Especially if they offer said service in the first place. What du helll is the point if they don’t UPDATE? As of their last friggin’ one, my books left Atlanta, GA on May 7. Ooookaaayyy. Would be nice to “see” where they are now too. But that all aside, what better way to start off the weekend than a book delivery? But now I’m wondering how many I’ll buy next week…

I understand what you mean. Canada post isn’t much better. About two months ago, I shipped a package to a friend in California. I saw that it had been taken in transit at the post office (ok, good, I’d done that myself so I already knew)… then nothing for three weeks, until I get an e-mail telling me the package has arrived. When I checked the site, there was indeed that big 3 week blank between the two dates, nothing in between. Same for my packages sent by Chapters (Can. equivalent to B&N) but at least in that case, I know from experience that after it was “proceeded in transit facility” in Ontario, I’ll have it in Montreal 2 to 3 days later (a week, top, if there’s a weekend or holiday of some sorts)
But Friday deliveries do rule. I got two packages this morning: one with my latest Bollywood movies (including my beloved LAGAAN, finally found at an affordable price) and a book I won at Sula’s space last week, SURRENDER by Pamela Clare. I’m becoming addicted to those contests. :-D
Oooo, good for you, Mary! I don’t enter contests very often. Last one I entered, we were supposed to enter something in the blog author’s comments section. There were two entries, lol, mine and another person’s. I checked back later and some unknown third party won the prize–and they hadn’t even put their entry in the comments section! That made me a bit irritated. I’m all for an anony entry if you must, but TELL people it’s OK to do so.
Hmmm, hopefully that’s all the bitching I need to do today, lol!
I am currently taking an hiatus from buying books - not sure how long this will last, usually not very long. :) In an effort to get down some of my TBR pile.
And Yay! You’ve got Magic Bites!
Lesley, you are far stronger than I!
And the cover for Magic Bites (and its successor) is so striking. It’s another one, like Twilight, that caught my eye quite a while ago, I jsut never woke up and actually got it.
I have a feeling I’ll actually start two or even three new books this weekend.
Help! I am stuck under my ever growing pile of TBR books and I can’t stop buying at the store and going to the library!!
Awesome! I have read both Twilight and Magic Bites, but not the Laura Lee Guhrke book. I can’t wait to hear your opinion on all three of these novels.
Happy Reading! :)
p.s. Good luck, LesleyW… I don’t even TRY to do that, because I know I’d fail. lol
Oh, Christine, I appreciate your encouragement! no telling when I’ll get to them. Could take a while or might be a week or so only. Wish I had nothing to do but read!
Congrats to Leslie for her retraint! I’m afraid I’m another hopeless case. I just ordered … *looks at list*, shit, 12 new books. In the last hour. Plus the order last week. Plus two otehr books I won and have yet to receive. Plus the 5 books at the used books store two days ago. And those I am probably going to buy tomorrow because, guess what? I am going to two other used books stores. *bangs head on desk* Is there a pill for that?
The irony is that with all that book-buying (and some writing) I haven’t been able to finish a book all week. Sigh.
I have Twilight too but haven’t read it because I strongly suspect I’ll like it, which would bring the purchase of books 2 and 3 (and 4 in a few months) and I’m at least trying to avoid getting involved in new series. I’m avoiding Ilona Andrews’ books for the same reason. But I have and have read And Then He Kissed Her. Correct, but not a keeper for me.
Well, that’s it then. If excessive book binge buying were a clinical problem, we’d have enough people confessing on this blog alone to populate that wing of the mental ward, lol!
Mary I fear your congratulations were slightly premature. :)
I went into Borders today and they had The Host by Stephenie Meyer on sale. It was hardback and half price I had to have it.
But I’m back on hiatus now. :)
well, Leslie, half-price is different. It’s a bargain. You can’t let something silly like a no-buy vow stand in your way! The book probably wouldn’t have been on sale anymore once you started buying again. After all, you would have bought the book eventually anyway; you just…anticipated a bit. :-D
