Faefever Spikes

I’m spending way too much time on the internet today. OMG, they say that’s as bad as TV these days. Hell, it IS the new TV. I’m a junkie, I admit.

But, oooh Karen M. Moning is a smart, devilish and wily woman! Check out her blog for a sneak “peek” at Faefever…it’s not much, but damn if this isn’t the year of the fever pitch books. And most of the ones I particularly want are coming at the end of the year. It’s gonna be a cramped race towards the reading finish line this year.

I haven’t read the Fever series, it keeps getting recommended to me, but somehow I keep just not getting the books.

I think because I read one of her Highlander books (which I know lots of people love) and it was okay (bearing in mind historicals aren’t my thing), but it didn’t really wow me.

So am I missing out on something by not reading the Fever series – LOL – I hate to think I’m missing out on anything.

I personally am so gaga over this series it’s unreal. It’s first person, but I know you read those, so hopefully that’s not a deterrent. Honestly, I would suggest trying the first one from your library if that’s possible for you. If you decide you like it, you can always purchase and if you don’t like, you’ve lost nothing but a few hours of time.

Mac, the heroine, has a unique voice, a must for 1st POV, but I am really liking how she is developing overall too. I like her wit, love the mystery surrounding Barrons and the whole Fae issue. Moning seems to have taken her standard Fae mythological background from her Highland books and super-sized it tremendously in the Fever series. Where the former is more sweet and definitely romance oriented, the latter is dark, dangerous and quite scary at times.

There is this sense of desperate foreboding that lingers over everything that happens like a thickening fog. I would love to have a good five or so uninterrupted hours to read these books, lol. If only that were possible!

I definitely don’t like the Fever series as much as I did the Highlander one, but they are still nice reads. Mac’s immaturity, shallowness (is that a word?) and sometimes downright stupidity annoyed the hell out of me for most of Darkfever, but she got at lot better near the end and she was much more interesting in Bloodfever. Although the situation doesn’t seem to have progressed a lot in Bloodfever, we know more about the world they live in and Moning definitely turned on the heat! Jericho is the most compelling character of the series to me. I’m a sucker for tall, dark and mysterious men and this man is a 5000 pieces jigsaw puzzle. Lol. I’m looking forward to more heat in Faefever and the planned crossover with the Highlander series.

One thing I love about this series is that I have no clue what the heck is coming. I think Moning is keeping the suspense and tension high.

And Barrons is HOT! I can’t help wanting to know more about V’lane too though. I’m kind of hoping there’s more to him than the usual shallow Fae qualities. Adam Black was different after all, maybe there are other “different” Fae too.

Good point about V’Lane. Adam was incredibly hot and touchingly vulnerable behind his cocky attitude. But Mac’s comments about the way the Seelie Princes treat human woman and vague memories of her saying she’d know that for a fact someday, or that she’d get burned or something like that, make it sound like V’lane is going to deceive her. Didn’t they say women touched by Seelie Princes then deprived of them die of yearning afterwards or something like that? But I bet Barrons is hot enough to satisfy that thirst himself. :-D

LOL! Good point! If V’lane leaves her wanting, surely Barrons can step in to fill the emptiness.

I’m definitely loving this series. I can’t wait for the next installment. And it’s definitely because I don’t care how much we speculate about the story, we just don’t know what’s coming. The suspense has me on pins and needles. I think KMM is doing a brilliant job of developing the characters and the story slowly but surely. Mac 1.1 is definitely different from Mac 1.2, and I expect that as the story goes along, Mac will keep changing and maturing. Barrons IS hot!! And that tension build up is great.

It helped that KMM let the readers know from the start that this was not your typical romance read. That this was nothing like her Highlander Series. So, I was not disappointed, as I was not expecting an HEA in every book. I knew it was one story told in 5 volumes. Can’t wait!!!
