Dawn Thompson – Never Forgotten
I’ve just read the news from Smart Bitches, that romance/erotic romance writer Dawn Thompson/Dawn MacTavish has passed away as of yesterday, February 8, 2008. I had the privilege of being a part of internet conversations with her at various times last year and can say, from that limited personal experience, that Dawn was one of the most giving as well as talented writers out there today. She was a true representation of writers that come together to help one another and she was always one to come to the forefront and rejoice with another, up-and-coming or established, for their success. Even at her busiest of times, through one deadline hell after another, Dawn was known to peek out of lurkdom to offer up congratulations. And the advice! Oh, how the woman could offer up the best advice, a treasury worth of smart and savvy experience that she was never one to horde. Name a question and she most likely could help.
Dawn possessed a love for mythology and it shows in her work. It was those roots that I recognized and took a shine to in the first book of hers that I read, The Waterlord. From there, it was natural that I had to have more of this author’s work and soon I’d devoured the Gothic, suspenseful atmosphere of The Ravencliff Bride and The Falcon’s Bride quickly became one of my most favorite time travel romances. I followed her work because here, clearly, was an author with a voice, one that consistently captured me again and again with her clear love of romance and attention to historical detail. She was, and still is, a writer to admire for her skill, an author to love for her storytelling.
To her closest and most dear friends and family: She will never be forgotten.
